For spectacular sunrise views, PR1 Vereda do Areeiro is one of Madeira’s most popular choices, with the high mountain peaks often rising above a sea of clouds as the sun comes up. Pico do Areeiro is particularly accessible for sunrise, even if you do not hike the entire PR1 route. Other high-altitude viewpoints can also offer beautiful sunrises, but conditions are highly weather-dependent. If you plan an early start, check the trail status, weather forecast and access requirements beforehand, and carry a headlamp for hiking in the dark.
